Pichai Sundararajan<\/strong><\/span> (born June 10, 1972[1]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup>[5]<\/a><\/sup>), better known as Sundar Pichai<\/strong><\/span> (\/\u02c8s\u028and\u0251\u02d0r p\u026a\u02c8t\u0283a\u026a\/<\/a>), is an Indian-American<\/a> business executive.[6]<\/a><\/sup> He is the chief executive officer<\/a> (CEO) of Alphabet Inc.<\/a> and its subsidiary Google<\/a>.[7]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in Madurai<\/a>, India,[4]<\/a><\/sup> Pichai earned his degree from IIT Kharagpur<\/a> in metallurgical engineering<\/a>. Moving to the United States, he attained an M.S.<\/a> from Stanford University<\/a> in materials science<\/a> and engineering<\/a> and further attained an MBA<\/a> from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania<\/a>, where he was named a Siebel Scholar<\/a> and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pichai began his career as a materials engineer<\/a>. Following a short stint at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Co.<\/a>, Pichai joined Google in 2004,[9]<\/a><\/sup> where he led the product management and innovation efforts for a suite of Google’s client software products, including Google Chrome<\/a> and Chrome OS<\/a>, as well as being largely responsible for Google Drive<\/a>. In addition, he went on to oversee the development of other applications such as Gmail<\/a> and Google Maps<\/a>. In 2010, Pichai also announced the open-sourcing of the new video codec VP8<\/a> by Google and introduced the new video format, WebM<\/a>. The Chromebook<\/a> was released in 2012. In 2013, Pichai added Android<\/a> to the list of Google products that he oversaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pichai was selected to become the next CEO of Google<\/a> on August 10, 2015, after previously being appointed Product Chief<\/a> by CEO Larry Page<\/a>. On October 24, 2015, he stepped into the new position at the completion of the formation of Alphabet Inc<\/a>., the new holding company<\/a> for the Google<\/a> company family. He was appointed to the Alphabet Board of Directors in 2017.[10]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
