However, you will not find any explanation on the site, so if you\u2019re interested in history, you should really opt for a guided tour.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This is the third point of interest included in the Colosseum ticket.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Palatine Hill<\/strong>,\u00a0one of the 7 hills of Rome<\/strong>, is according to mythology the place where the city was founded by Romulus and Remus. As you might know, they are the two twins\u00a0who would have been found and suckled by a wolf in a cave.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n At the top of\u00a0Palatine Hill<\/strong>, you will have access to this cave and ruins of the residences of historical figures such as Augustus, the first Roman emperor.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Not far from the Roman Forum, at the other end of\u00a0Via dei fori impierali,<\/strong>\u00a0you can find\u00a0piazza Venezia<\/strong>, one of Rome\u2019s main squares. From there, all the streets leads to Rome\u2019s main tourist attractions!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This is where you can admire the\u00a0Monument to Victor Emmanuel II,<\/strong>\u00a0also called \u201cAltare della Patria\u201d or \u201cVittoriano\u201d, a huge white marble building dedicated to the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Next to the square, there is also the famous\u00a0Trajan\u2019s column<\/strong>, with bas-reliefs retracing the military conquests of the Emperor Trajan.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Climb the broad staircase leading to the\u00a0Monument to Victor Emmanuel II<\/strong>\u00a0and you will arrive on\u00a0Capitol Square.<\/strong>\u00a0Designed by Michelangelo himself, it was formerly the political and religious heart of Rome. On\u00a0Capitol Square<\/strong>, you can see:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n The\u00a0Pantheon\u00a0<\/strong>is the best preserved ancient building in Rome and another must-see touristic attraction to add to this list!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Originally dedicated to all mythology divinities, it became a Christian church in the 7th century. Don\u2019t hesitate to enter,\u00a0the visit is free of charge,<\/strong>\u00a0which is rare enough to mention it!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Inside,\u00a0admire the immense dome and the oculus (the opening in the dome), giving the place a unique lighting.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In the Pantheon, you can also see\u00a0the tombs of Raphael\u00a0<\/strong>(the famous artist) and\u00a0Victor Emmanuel II<\/strong>\u00a0(1st king of Italy, as mentioned above when I talked about the beautiful building dedicated to him on Piazza Venezia)<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n And if you want to get more historical information, you should get an audioguide.
